New Delhi: Three cases including murder have been registered against Haryana's Gurmel who was arrested in the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-Ajit faction) leader and former minister Baba Siddiqui in Mumbai, while the other shooter Dharamraj Kashyap who was arrested and absconding Shivanand alias Shivkumar Gautam have no criminal history.
Underworld connection is being investigated
Teams of Mumbai Police, STF and ATS have camped in Bahraich. Efforts are being made to find out whether Dharamraj and Shivanand are connected to any big gang of the underworld. On the suspicion of Shivanand being in Ujjain, the Mumbai Crime Branch team reached there on Sunday and with the help of the local police, conducted a search operation in hotels, lodges, dharamshalas located around the station, Dewasgate, Mahakal temple.
Controversy over the age of Dharmaraja
Dharamraj Kashyap and Shivanand are residents of Gandara village in Kaiserganj area of Bahraich. Their family members say that they had gone to Pune for work a few months ago. Their family members are also shocked by their names appearing in this murder case. Evidence is also being sought regarding the age of Dharamraj, because it was revealed that he was a minor. He has studied till fifth standard.
Previous criminal history of the accused
On Monday, his documents will be checked at his school. Dharamraj's father sells fish, while Shivanand's father works as a labourer. SP Vrinda Shukla said that no previous criminal history of the accused has been found.
It is suspected that both of them might be associated with some criminal gang because Dharamraj fired bullets like a professional shooter.
The police is also questioning three friends of the two. It has come to light that a large sum of money has been sent to the accounts of the friends in the past few days.
Three cases including murder registered against Haryana's Gurmel
23-year-old Gurmel got bail from the High Court on July 7, 2023 in the murder case. After this, he has been declared a fugitive for not appearing again. 70-year-old grandmother Phulli Devi, present at his house in Narad village of Kaithal, said that Gurmel was evicted ten years ago. He is already dead for us. If he is doing wrong, then he should be shot in public. She told that he came home about four months ago.

He had left with his 13-year-old brother telling him that he was going to Haridwar. He has no parents. Phulli Devi is running the household with a pension of three thousand rupees. It is said that in 2020-21, a gangster from Punjab came to Kaithal jail. Police suspect that Gurmel must have come in contact with Lawrence Bishnoi gang at that time. Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kalia says that the police is gathering information about Gurmel at the local level.
