New Delhi : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday expressed his deep condolences over the death of three people in the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express accident in Uttar Pradesh.

In a post on Twitter, the Leader of the Opposition said, "The news of the death of many passengers due to the derailment of Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh is very sad. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wish the injured a speedy recovery. Congress workers are requested to provide all possible assistance in relief and rescue operations."

Rahul Gandhi surrounded the government over the train accident

Rahul Gandhi said, the frequent rail accidents are extremely worrying and are the result of the government's mismanagement and negligence. This is evident from the discussion with loco pilots a few days ago and the Railway Safety Commissioner's report on the recent rail accidents.

He said, the government should immediately take full responsibility for this and tell the country its strategy for the safety of passengers and prevention of accidents. The train derailed at around 2:37 pm near Gonda station between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations under Northeast Railway.

4-5 coaches of Dibrugarh Express derailed

The front 4-5 coaches of the Dibrugarh Express train had derailed. After receiving the information, the medical team along with senior officials of the Lucknow Division of NER immediately reached the spot.

Meanwhile, repair work is underway at the site of the derailment of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express in Gonda. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Thursday that the injured have been taken to hospital and will be given proper treatment.

CM Yogi Adityanath had expressed grief

UP CM Yogi Adityanath wrote in a post on Twitter, the train accident in Gonda district is extremely sad. The district administration officials have been instructed to carry out relief and rescue operations on a war footing and to take the injured to the hospital on top priority and provide them proper treatment. I pray to Lord Shri Ram for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed grief and concern over the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express accident.

Himanta said, I am shocked to know about the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh train accident in Uttar Pradesh today. I am closely monitoring the situation. There is no report of any casualty from Assam so far. Teams are ready to assist. We will do our best to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone.

The Railway Ministry has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of those killed in the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express accident, Rs 2.5 lakh each to the seriously injured and Rs 50,000 each to those with minor injuries.

Apart from the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) inquiry, a high-level probe has been ordered into the train accident.
