New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to Delhi after his two-day visit to Russia during which he attended the 16th BRICS summit in Kazan. He also met several world leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on the sidelines of the BRICS summit.
During his visit to Russia, PM Modi addressed two sessions of the BRICS Summit held in Kazan under the chairmanship of Russia. PM Modi said on X that his visit to Russia was very useful. India's economic growth is an example for many BRICS countries: Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday praised India's economic growth, saying the country is an example for many nations in the BRICS group.Putin made the remarks while addressing the 16th BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan. He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for attending the three-day summit.
Putin said, 'We all talk about the need to ensure high economic growth rate. You (Modi) have managed to do it successfully. We congratulate you for the economic growth of 7.5 percent. This is an example for many of us. Thank you for the steps taken by you.' It is worth mentioning that India's economy is expected to grow at the rate of seven percent this year, while the growth rate may be 6.5 percent in the year 2025.
Putin's remarks came after the statement of the Director of the Asia Pacific Department of the International Monetary Fund, Krishna Srinivasan. Srinivasan had said on Tuesday that India remains the world's largest growing economy and its economic fundamentals are also good.
Ending the war in Gaza is the key to regional peace
Chinese President Xi Jinping said at the conference that an early ceasefire and an end to the war in Gaza is the key to regional peace. He said that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is constantly deteriorating, war has flared up again in Lebanon and conflict between different parties is increasing. We should promote an immediate ceasefire and stop killings. We should make efforts towards a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestine issue.
Xi Jinping said, "The Ukraine crisis still persists. China and Brazil, together with other countries in the Global South, have launched a group of friends of peace to deal with the crisis." He said, "We should uphold the three major principles - not to expand the battlefield, not to escalate hostility and not to inflame, and to strive for a rapid de-escalation of tensions."

Xi Jinping also said that the BRICS summit has decided to invite a number of countries to become partner countries. He called on the group to actively respond to requests from countries in the Global South in this regard.
