Tremors were also felt in India and Thailand

A massive earthquake struck Myanmar on 28 March 2025. The tremors of this earthquake were also felt in neighbouring countries like India and Thailand. This earthquake has caused a lot of devastation near Mandalay, the second largest city of Myanmar.

Along with the relief and rescue workers, the local people are also busy removing the debris to find their loved ones. Due to the scorching heat, the bodies have started stinking. It is also becoming difficult to breathe in the air. The number of people who died due to the earthquake is gradually increasing. More than 700 people who were offering namaaz have died due to the earthquake. Apart from this, more than 60 mosques have also been destroyed.

The earthquake caused heavy damage to buildings

The earthquake has also caused heavy damage to many monasteries and buildings in Myanmar's Sagaing city. Apart from this, satellite images have also shown cracks in the surrounding rivers, which indicates the soil becoming unstable during the earthquake. This is called liquefaction, in which the ground turns into mud when it mixes with water and also damages buildings.

Cause of earthquake: Collision of Indian and Eurasian plates

According to ISRO scientists, the Myanmar region lies on the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian plates and earthquakes occur frequently here. The Indian plate moves northward by about 5 centimeters every year, which accumulates seismic stress. When this stress is suddenly released, major earthquakes occur, as seen in Myanmar.
