Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das was denied bail by a Chittagong court. On Thursday, ISKCON Kolkata reacted to the court's decision and called it unfortunate.
ISKCON spokesperson Radharaman Das said that a good thing during the hearing was that the lawyers presented Chinmay Das' case in the court. Earlier, the lawyers were not allowed to present their case during the hearing.
Chinmay Das is not well
Radharaman Das said that it is sad that his bail plea has been rejected. It was hoped that he would be released in the new year. He said that Chinmay Das is unwell.
It was hoped that the court would grant him bail on this basis. The ISKCON spokesperson said that Chinmay Krishna Das's lawyer will now file a petition in the High Court of Bangladesh.
Hope- Interim government will provide security to lawyers
Radharaman Das expressed hope that the interim government of Bangladesh would provide adequate security to Chinmoy's lawyers inside and outside the court premises during the hearing of the petition in the High Court.
Chinmay has been in jail for 40 days
Chinmay Krishna Das was arrested from Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on November 25. He is accused of treason. Chinmay Das, who has been in Bangladesh jail for the last 40 days, was produced in court virtually on Thursday. But the Chittagong court rejected his bail plea.
After Hasina's departure, Hindus are on target
From July to August, a student movement erupted in Bangladesh. After it turned violent, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to leave Bangladesh on August 5.
