Rome: An Indian farm worker working in Italy died after a road accident on Wednesday. Satnam Singh was injured on Monday while working on a farm in Latina, a rural area south of Rome where thousands of Indian migrant workers live. Labor Minister Marina Calderone expressed grief over the accident in Parliament.
Labor Minister condemned
The Labour Minister told Parliament that an Indian farm worker who was left in a very critical condition after a serious accident in the rural area of Latina has died. His hand was also cut off. The minister condemned this 'barbaric act'.
Acts of vandalism
"It was indeed an act of vandalism," the minister said. He said authorities were investigating and hoped those responsible would be punished. According to the Flai CGIL trade union, Singh, aged 30 or 31, was working without legal papers when a machine severed his hand. Instead of helping Singh, people present dumped him near the house. The minister described the situation as a "horror film".
Singh was later taken to hospital by an air ambulance. He was taken to a hospital in Rome but died around noon today, a police spokesman in Latina told AFP.
