Sambhal Police Chowki:  A new controversy has arisen over the Satyavrat Police Chowki being built in front of Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal, UP. Today AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi tweeted and claimed that the police post is not only being built on Waqf land but the Ancient Monuments and Archeological Sites and Remains Act (AMASR Act) 1958 has also been violated in the construction of the police post.

In such a situation, let us first tell you about the AMASR Act. Under the Ancient Monuments and Archeological Sites and Remains Act 1958, an area of 100 meters near any monument protected by ASI is a Prohibited Area around which no new construction can be done. Not only this, if a person has constructed a house or any other building before the implementation of this Act, then the person needs permission from ASI for repairs.

The provisions of AMASR give these exemptions.
However, the provisions of AMASR do give some exemptions for government construction and according to Section 20 (A) of the Act, written approval of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is necessary for government construction. Talking to ABP News on this entire matter, Sambhal DM Dr. Rajendra Pansia claimed that all the approval procedures were followed before the construction of the police post.

However, according to sources, the Sambhal district administration had written a letter to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for the construction of the police post, but till now ASI has not given any written permission to the Sambhal administration for the construction. For official information on this entire matter, ABP News has also sought a reply from the spokesperson of the Archaeological Survey of India through email, but till now we have not received any reply from ASI.

MP Asaduddin Owaisi had also claimed that the police post is being constructed on Waqf land, on this Sambhal DM Dr Rajendra Pensia said that the administration has not received any claim from any official party, also the administration has started investigation on this matter and soon the truth will be in front of everyone.

The 100 meter area near the ASI monument is called PROHIBITED Area in which neither construction nor repair can be done without the permission of ASI. In this section, it is also said that if any government building is to be constructed, then written approval of ASI is necessary. In such a situation, it will have to be seen what comes out after investigation on this matter.
