News Topical, Digital Desk : In order to control pollution in the capital Delhi, a decision has been taken to not provide fuel without a valid PUC certificate. Amidst this strictness, people are taking time off from their work to reach PUC centers. Meanwhile, they are facing significant difficulties. Server downtime has resulted in long queues at many centers.
The Delhi government has taken a major step to control air pollution. Now, petrol pumps in the capital will not provide fuel to any vehicle without a valid PUC certificate. Following this government crackdown, a large number of people are visiting pollution testing centers to have their vehicles inspected.
How are vehicles without PUC being caught at petrol pumps?
A new technology is now being used at petrol pumps. As soon as a vehicle arrives at the pump, its license plate is scanned. If the system detects that the vehicle's PUC certificate has expired, an immediate announcement is made stating that the vehicle does not have a valid certificate. In such a situation, it is made clear that fuel will not be available until the PUC certificate is issued.
People took a break from duty and came to get PUC made.
ABP News spoke with several people who took time off from their duties to get pollution certificates. Imperial Hotel employee Mansoor Ahmed Khan said, "My pollution certificate had expired. I'm unable to get petrol now, so I have to get it renewed. I took time out during my lunch break to get it."
Vijay Pal says, "I, too, came mid-duty to get a pollution certificate." A female driver explained that she had to come mid-duty to get a pollution certificate. Meanwhile, journalist Shankar Chakraborty explained that the expiry date for his vehicle's PUC was announced. He wasn't aware of the new rule. "I admit my mistake in not getting the certificate, but this rule is very important," he said.
Vehicle owner's opinion on PUC expiry announcement
BJP worker and car owner Jasbir Singh Solanki said, "I brought my car back from the workshop, and the pollution level only decreased on Thursday (December 18th). I don't think this step alone will completely control pollution. Industries cause more pollution than vehicles."
Meanwhile, pollution control workers say they've seen an unusually large crowd since morning. They've issued 60 certificates so far. On Thursday (December 18th), a large number of people are coming for testing in a single day. They explained that the server often goes down because the website is running slowly. It's difficult to say when the server will be restored. For the past two days, many people have been coming to get their certificates.
Server down caused trouble
Many people faced problems due to the server being down. Meanwhile, the driver said, "We came from Dwarka and have been waiting for 15-20 minutes. The server is down every time. Previously, when there was no checking, no one would believe it. Now, even with the server down, certificates are not being generated."
Shankar Chaturvedi said, "I went to Link Road, then to CP. I waited for an hour, but the server was down. How many times should I come for pollution testing? Today I'll wait and go." This strictness by the Delhi government is making people aware of the rules, but technical problems, such as server downtime, are also creating new problems for the common man. Despite this, most people consider this step a necessary and important initiative towards pollution control.
