New Delhi. Sooraj Barjatya's film 'Maine Pyar Kiya' made Salman Khan a star overnight. This was Salman's first film as a lead. He became famous as Prem in the film. But do you know that he was never the makers' first choice for this character? Before Salman Khan, many actors were approached for the role of Prem who romanced Bhagyashree in the 1989 superhit film ' Maine Pyar Kiya '. One of them was Piyush Mishra. When Piyush got this role, he was studying acting as a student at the National School of Drama.
Piyush Mishra was the choice of Sooraj Barjatya's father
It would have been a big thing for Piyush Mishra to debut in the acting world with 'Maine Pyar Kiya', but why did he not accept this offer at that time, now he has talked about it. In a conversation with Zoom, Piyush Mishra said-
It was not like I had become a star or I had got the role. Initially there was a discussion about this. Sooraj Barjatya's father Rajkumar ji had chosen me. He had come to meet me. He had not cast me. This was in 1986. I was in the third year when this happened.
The actors were not ready for Maine Pyar Kiya
'Maine Pyar Kiya' was a superhit film. Being a part of it would have been a big deal for any newcomer. But Piyush Mishra has no regrets about losing this film. He says that it is good that he did not get this film, because he would not have been able to handle stardom. Piyush said-
If I had got that offer, I would have probably already achieved stardom and at that age I was probably not mentally, physically or emotionally ready. I was just 26 then and I would not have been able to handle success. I would not have been able to handle that kind of stardom and I accept it. I was not ready for it, so it's good that I did not get this film.'
