Amid the debate on work-life balance, many leading industrialists are advising to increase working hours. Amidst all this, Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra said on Saturday that he believes in the quality of work instead of working hours.
Recently, Larsen & Tourbo (L&T) chairman SN Subrahmanyan has advised to work 90 hours in a week. Not only this, he said that if it was possible, I would call the employees to the office even on Sundays and make them work.
He said what is the benefit to employees by taking leave at home. What do you do sitting at home? How long can you gaze at your wife? How long can wives gaze at their husbands? Go to the office and start working. Earlier, the Infosys chairman had advised to work 70 hours a week.
I believe in quality of work: Anand Mahindra
On Saturday, Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra commented on such comments made by the country's top corporate leaders. Addressing the Develop India Young Leaders Dialogue 2025 program in Delhi, Anand Mahindra said that he believes in the quality of work and not in the quantity of work.
He told the youth, 'I have great respect for Narayana Murthy (founder of Infosys) and others. So, I will not take it wrong, but I have to say something. I think this debate is going in the wrong direction. I believe we should focus on the quality of work, not on working hours. So it is not a matter of 40, 48, 70 or 90 hours.
Mahindra said, 'It depends on the output of the work. Even if you work for 10 hours, what output are you giving? You can change the world in 10 hours.' This debate has started at a time when many countries are experimenting with a four-day work week.
Work should be done with full heart: Ritesh Agarwal
During the same event, Oyo co-founder and CEO Ritesh Agarwal said that the concept of working hours is not correct. He said, 'The correct concept for work is that you should work wholeheartedly. Everyone is working wholeheartedly for the developed India mission. Some people can be productive in just four hours a day, while some people may take eight hours. Everyone can have their own way and method of working.'
While serial entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala said, "I think we all know that you need to be a complete person, otherwise you cannot perform. So hard work is very important."
