The market closed on a positive note on the day of Bank Nifty Monthly Expiry. Buying was seen in midcap and smallcap stocks on Wednesday. The rupee weakened by 18 paise against the dollar and closed at 84.28. On a sectoral level, buying was seen in energy, PSE and metal stocks. Oil & Gas, Auto, FMCG index closed on a positive note. At the same time, pressure was seen in pharma, realty and IT stocks. Nifty closed at a 3-week high on the back of strong buying in HDFC Bank and Adani Group stocks.

Siemens closed with a gain of 3% after the release of September quarter results. Battery manufacturers Exide and Amara Raja closed with a gain of 3-5%. NALCO closed with a loss of 1% today. Kotak Institutional Equities has downgraded the rating on this stock.
