News Topical, Digital Desk : A big case of land grabbing has come to light in Goa. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided 13 locations in Goa and Hyderabad. This action is related to the illegal occupation of society lands in Anjuna and Asgaon areas. Investigation has revealed that Yashwant Sawant and his associates got about 3.5 lakh square meters of land registered in their name using old fake documents. Some of these lands were also sold, earning crores of rupees. The value of these lands is said to be more than Rs 1200 crore.

Many bank accounts and FDs of the accused have also been seized

During the raids, ED found Rs 72 lakh in cash and 7 luxury vehicles (Porsche, BMW, Range Rover, Mercedes). Along with this, several bank accounts and FDs of the accused were also seized. ED says that the investigation is still going on and it may reveal an even bigger land grabbing network spread in Goa.

Raid on the hideouts of Panchayat member and businessman

According to information, teams of ED officials conducted simultaneous raids at several places, including the residence of a panchayat member in Anjuna area and the residence and office of a businessman located near Bhumika Mandir in Anjuna. Searches were also conducted at the residences of two other associates linked to the duo. According to sources, the raids were based on information received from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Goa Police, which had earlier registered a case against both the panchayat member and the businessman for their alleged role in fraudulent land deals.

The SIT is investigating several high-profile cases of land grabbing across Goa, many of which involve forged documents and illegal sale of community properties. The coastal region of Anjuna and Assagao is known for its rising real estate prices and popularity among investors.
