News Topical, Digital Desk : Currently 10,574 Indian citizens are imprisoned in different jails of the world. Out of these, 43 people have been sentenced to death. This information was given in the Parliament on Friday.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has the highest number of Indian prisoners, where 2,773 Indian nationals are currently behind bars, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.

 

Which countries have how many prisoners?

This is followed by Saudi Arabia with 2,379 prisoners and Nepal with 1,357 prisoners. Other countries that have a significant number of Indian prisoners include Qatar with 795, Malaysia with 380, Kuwait with 342, United Kingdom with 323, Bahrain with 261, Pakistan with 246, China with 183 and other countries.

Several countries have only one Indian prisoner each, including Angola, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Egypt, Iraq, Jamaica, Mauritius, Senegal, Seychelles, South Africa, Sudan, Tajikistan and Yemen.

 

Saudi Arabia has the most prisoners sentenced to death

Talking about prisoners serving death sentence, the highest number of 21 Indians are in United Arab Emirates. It is followed by Saudi Arabia (7), China (4), Indonesia (3) and Kuwait (2). One Indian each has been sentenced to death in America, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar and Yemen.
