Meanwhile, a UN human rights team will visit Bangladesh next week. The team will meet with the government in Dhaka to discuss the investigation of Muhammad Yunus' interim government into human rights violations during the recent violence in Bangladesh.
The issue of assistance and accountability was discussed
Farhan Haq, deputy spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said on Friday that the High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk discussed the issue of accountability and assistance provided by the UN human rights office to Bangladesh.
The team will discuss ways to investigate human rights violations
Haq said the human rights team visiting Bangladesh will discuss with the interim government "areas of assistance and modalities for investigating human rights abuses in the context of recent violence and unrest." Meanwhile, Volker Turk said in a statement issued in Geneva that a comprehensive, impartial and transparent investigation of all human rights violations and abuses would be the first important step in Bangladesh.
Hindus and temples were attacked in Bangladesh
Meanwhile, a report by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights said there have been widespread attacks on Hindus and their temples in Bangladesh after Sheikh Hasina resigned as Prime Minister.
Houses of Hindus attacked in 27 districts of Bangladesh
The report said that on August 5-6, houses of Hindus were attacked, vandalised and looted in 27 districts of Bangladesh. Many temples were also damaged in the attacks. The ISKCON temple in Meherpur of Khulna division was vandalised and set on fire.
Human rights are the cornerstone of the government- Yunus
On the other hand, Muhammad Yunus has said that human rights are the foundation of his government and the safety of every citizen is the top priority of the government. In fact, he has sought cooperation from the United Nations to maintain human rights.
