Reuters, Bangkok. 37-year-old Patongtarn Shinawatra,  the youngest daughter of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, has been elected the 31st Prime Minister of Thailand. 319 MPs have supported her. She will be the youngest Prime Minister to hold the post. She will be the second female Prime Minister of the country and will replace Shretha Thavisin.


She became the second woman prime minister of the country

In his first address after being elected as the Prime Minister, Patongtarn Shinawatra said that he was saddened by the removal of Shretha. He talked to Shretha, his family and party people, after which he decided that now the time has come to do something for the country.

Third member of the family to become Prime Minister

Patongtarn is the third member of the Shinawatra family to become prime minister after father Thaksin and aunt Yingluck Shinawatra. Yingluck Shinawatra was Thailand's first female prime minister. She was removed from office by a Constitutional Court decision on 7 May 2014.
