Washington: The growing relations between India and the US have raised concerns of China and Russia. This is because India-US relations promote inclusiveness, peace and peaceful resolution of disputes along with giving importance to different voices in the society.
US Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard Verma, who has been the US Ambassador to India, said that India-US relations have entered a new era with a solid foundation and a bright future.
India-US relations strengthened
Commenting on India-US relations at the Hudson Institute, Richard Verma said that like any other country, the US and India cannot agree on everything. But it has become stronger during the tenure of President Joe Biden. Responding to a question on 'Quad', he said that its purpose is to promote peace, security, stability and prosperity.
Verma said that there are challenges in this relationship too. I am clearly aware of the challenges we are facing.
For example, I am concerned about growing Russia-China cooperation, especially in the security sphere. This partnership could help Russia in its illegal war against Ukraine.
He said Russia's assistance could also give China new capabilities that pose a challenge to the security of the Indo-Pacific.
I am conscious of strengthening our economic cooperation with clear rules, ensuring transparency and fairness.
He said, I am conscious of the need to continue supporting our collective civil societies to ensure that every voice is heard and supported, and that there is freedom of speech.
Who will host the Quad?
A spokesperson for the US President announced on Thursday that Biden will host the fourth summit of Quad leaders next week at his residence in Delaware. India was supposed to host the Quad this year but will now host the summit next year.
