News Topical, Digital Desk : Iran has warned the world that oil prices could reach $200 per barrel. On Wednesday, Iranian forces attacked merchant ships in the Gulf. Iranian military spokesman Ibrahim Zolfaqari said, "You have destabilized regional security, so be prepared for $200 per barrel of oil."
He warned that if the ports are targeted, the economic and trade centers of the region will also be targeted. It has been nearly two weeks since the war began with joint US and Israeli airstrikes. Nearly 2,000 people have been killed, mostly Iranians and Lebanese. The war has now spread to Lebanon and has completely disrupted global energy supplies and transportation.
The US Department of Defense described it as the most intense air strikes since the war began. Despite this, Iran continued to attack targets in Israel and across the Middle East, demonstrating its ability to retaliate.
Iran attacks ships in the Gulf
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards said it had fired on ships in the Gulf that were disobeying their orders. Three ships were reported attacked on Wednesday.
A Thai-flagged bulk carrier was engulfed in flames, the crew was evacuated, but three people are missing, believed to be trapped in the engine room. A Japanese container ship and a Marshall Islands bulk carrier were also damaged by projectiles. Since the start of the war, 14 merchant ships have been attacked.
