News Topical, Digital Desk : Even as nuclear talks between the US and Iran continue, the Trump administration is accelerating preparations for a major military operation against Iran.

An Axios exclusive report, citing sources, says that if negotiations fail, a joint US-Israeli operation could be launched, far more extensive and prolonged than the 12-day offensive last June. This campaign could threaten Iran's nuclear and missile programs, as well as the regime's existence.

"The boss is fed up. Some around him are warning against war, but I think there's a 90 percent chance of kinetic action in the next few weeks," a Trump adviser told Axios. The report said the campaign would be "massive, lasting several weeks" rather than smaller targeted strikes, which would be different from the recent pinpoint operation in Venezuela.

US military buildup intensifies

  • More than 50 fighter jets (including F-35, F-22, F-16) have arrived in West Asia in the last 24 hours.
  • Two aircraft carriers—USS Abraham Lincoln (deployed in the Arabian Sea) and USS Gerald R. Ford (headed to the region)—are present in the region.
  • Dozens of warships, MQ-9 Reaper drones, A-10C Thunderbolt IIs and other surveillance aircraft (E-3 Sentry, P-8 Poseidon) have been deployed.
  • Satellite images showed destroyers like the USS Delbert D. Black heading toward the Red Sea.

Trump gave an ultimatum

Trump had issued a two-week ultimatum, demanding that Iran present a detailed proposal. However, major differences remain between the two sides even after a three-hour meeting in Geneva between Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Vice President J.D. Vance told Fox News that Trump had set some "red lines" that Iran was unwilling to accept.

Israel also preparing for war: Israeli officials reported that the government was ready for war in "a few days" and were pushing for a maximalist scenario (including regime change).

The Trump administration is pursuing a dual strategy: continuing nuclear talks while increasing military pressure to force Iran to agree to a deal. If a deal is not reached, it could have profound consequences for the remainder of Trump's term. Public discussion of this issue in Congress has been minimal.
