News Topical, Digital Desk : Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has re-applied to the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Secretariat to receive pension as a former MLA. Secretariat officials have confirmed that the application process has started and approval will be given soon. One question is in everyone's mind that why did he apply from Rajasthan only.

Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar made this application in Rajasthan because he was a Congress MLA from Kishangarh assembly constituency between 1993 and 1998. As an MLA, he continued to receive pension till 2019, but in the same year he was appointed Governor of West Bengal and later he became Vice President. The pension was stopped while he was holding a constitutional post.

resigned due to health reasons

74-year-old Dhankhar resigned from the post of Vice President on 21 July 2025 due to health reasons. The family has also clarified that he is not attending any public event right now and is on complete rest.

How much pension will you get?

Officials of the Legislative Assembly Secretariat said that a person who has been an MLA in Rajasthan once gets a monthly pension of Rs 35,000. At the same time, an additional 20% increase is made if the age is more than 70 years. On this basis, Dhankhar will get a pension of about Rs 42,000 per month. This amount will be in addition to other pensions he gets as Vice President and former MP.

Political significance and questions

This move of Dhankhar has become a topic of discussion in political circles. Questions are being raised whether the former Vice President of the country should have applied for such a small amount? However, experts believe that this is a completely legal process and there is nothing unusual in it.

ex-MLA pension rules

According to the rules of Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha, any former MLA is entitled to pension even if he has later held a big constitutional post. Since Dhankhar was an MLA from Rajasthan, the application was also made there. This decision is related only to legal rights, but in politics it is being seen as a signal of many kinds.
