Brightness of the Sun God

According to mythology, the Sun God was married to the goddess Sandhya. Sandhya was his wife, but she couldn't bear his radiance. To resolve this problem, Sandhya decided to perform penance. Through her meditation, she created a shadow that resembled her and left it to serve the Sun God in her place, leaving her to perform penance in the forest. The Sun God was unaware of this.

Birth of Shani Dev

Chaya began living as the wife of the Sun God. Chaya was a devout devotee of Lord Shiva. While Shani Dev was in her womb, Mother Chaya performed penance to Lord Shiva day and night, remaining hungry and thirsty, regardless of sunlight or shade. Due to the effects of her penance, the child in her womb turned completely black.

When Shani Dev was born, he was dark in complexion. Suryadev, on the other hand, was stunned when he saw his son. He couldn't believe that such a dark child could be his son.

The beginning of bitterness between father and son

Enraged, Suryadev accused Chaya of not being his. She not only refused to adopt the child but also insulted Chaya, the mother. Seeing this disrespect to himself and his mother, the child Shani became very angry. It is believed that Shanidev possessed extraordinary powers from birth. He looked at his father, Suryadev, with an evil eye. Under the influence of Shanidev's powerful gaze, Suryadev's golden body turned black and his horses stopped. Suryadev became frightened and could not understand what was happening to him. Finally, he sought help from Lord Shiva.

Justice of Lord Shiva

Lord Shiva explained to Surya Dev that Shani was his own son. Shani Dev's dark complexion symbolized the power of his mother's penance. Surya Dev realized his mistake and apologized, after which he regained his original form. However, Shani Dev never forgot his father's insult to his mother. Therefore, even today, in astrology, Surya Dev and Shani Dev are considered enemies.
