What did the court say?
Let us tell you that a Delhi court on Monday accepted the Delhi Police's 'closure report' seeking quashing of the case filed by a wrestler (when she was a minor) who accused former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment. Additional Sessions Judge Gomti Manocha said, "The case is accepted to be cancelled."
During the in-chamber proceedings on August 1, 2023, the 'minor' had told the judge that she was satisfied with the Delhi Police's investigation into the case and did not oppose the 'closure report'. The Delhi Police had filed a report on June 15, 2023 seeking quashing of the case involving the girl after her father made a shocking claim in the middle of the investigation that he had lodged a false complaint of sexual assault against Brij Bhushan to avenge the alleged injustice done to the girl.
The police had recommended dropping the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case against Brij Bhushan but a separate case filed by six women wrestlers accused him of sexual assault. The police recommended quashing the complaint involving the minor wrestler, saying no concrete evidence was found. The POCSO Act provides for a minimum of three years' imprisonment, depending on the section under which the case is filed. Former BJP MP Brij Bhushan has consistently denied the allegations.
