In a sensational incident in Meerut in the month of March, a woman named Muskan Rastogi, with the help of her lover Sahil, killed her husband Saurabh Rajput and chopped his body into pieces and filled them in a drum and went on a holiday.

In Meerut itself, 27-year-old Ravita strangled her husband Amit Kashyap to death with the help of her 19-year-old lover Amardeep. Both of them placed a poisonous snake near his body to make it appear as a natural death. However, the post-mortem report revealed the truth.

In an incident in Bijnor, a woman named Shivani claimed that her husband had a heart attack. But the post-mortem revealed that her husband was strangled. In Auraiya, a marriage lasted only 15 days and then the woman, her lover and a man murdered the husband Dilip Yadav.

The husband got his wife married to his boyfriend

A strange incident took place in the Sant Kabir Nagar district of the state. When Bablu, a resident of the district, came to know that his wife was having an extramarital affair, he decided to get her married to the man she wanted.

Referring to the Meerut 'Blue Drum' murder case, Bablu told the news agency, "I preferred peace over confrontation. Recently, we have seen that wives have killed their husbands over such matters. So I decided to get my wife married to her lover so that both of us can live peacefully." However, Bablu contacted the man a few days later to bring his wife back as he was finding it difficult to raise his two children alone.

In a similar incident in Farrukhabad, Rahul separated from his wife Vaishnavi just so that he could help her remarry. The two have not yet divorced but are adamant on starting afresh.

Woman eloped with her would-be son-in-law

Recently, a strange incident came to light in Aligarh, which brought shame to relationships, in which a woman left her house with her would-be son-in-law. The woman's daughter was going to get married to that man after 10 days. Local resident Ramakant said on this incident, 'It is common for mothers to get emotional before their daughter's wedding, but I have never seen before that a woman runs away with the man her daughter is going to get married to.'

The woman's daughter said that her mother used to talk a lot to her would-be son-in-law but she never thought that she would run away with him. She said, 'My marriage was to take place on April 16 and my mother ran away with him a few days before. She also took away the money and jewellery kept for my marriage.'

Psychologist Dr Supriya Das, an expert in family complexities, said that all these incidents were sensational on the surface but they highlight human complexity. She said, 'These incidents highlight a complex interrelationship between individual desires and social norms.' She also refused to dismiss these incidents as anomalies and claimed that they reflect 'underlying changes' in the way people understand and pursue relationships.

In Amroha, 30-year-old Shabnam converted to Hinduism and married an 18-year-old student in a temple. She has three children from her two previous marriages.

Dr Supriya Das said, 'The 'mundane realities' of marriage have always existed, but perhaps there is a growing intolerance for a lack of emotional satisfaction. People are feeling empowered or perhaps desperate to seek alternatives that prioritise personal happiness, even if it means challenging long-standing social conventions.'
