News Topical, Digital Desk : Whenever we look at any packaged food or oil can, it is often written on it - saturated fat, unsaturated fat and trans fat. Many people ignore it after reading it, because they think that 'fat' will only be harmful for the body, but the truth is a little different from this. Yes, not every fat is bad, the only difference is to understand it (Difference Between Fats) and take it in the right quantity. Let us know about these three types of fat.
Saturated Fat
This fat is most common in our everyday food. It is found in things like butter, ghee, cheese, milk and meat. It helps in providing energy to the body, but if its quantity becomes excessive, then it starts increasing bad cholesterol (LDL). This is the reason why doctors always say that butter and fried foods should be eaten in limited quantities.
Unsaturated Fat
This fat is called a friend of the body. It is present in abundance in food items like olive oil, sunflower oil, almonds, walnuts and avocado. Unsaturated fat keeps our heart healthy, maintains the balance of cholesterol in the blood and also helps in increasing the efficiency of the brain. In simple words, this is 'healthy fat', which is beneficial for the body if taken in balanced amounts.
Trans Fat
Now comes the turn of the fat which we should avoid the most. Trans fat is mostly found in packed snacks, biscuits, cakes, namkeen and deep-fried food. It is extremely harmful for the body, because it not only increases bad cholesterol (LDL) but also reduces good cholesterol (HDL). That is, it does double damage to our heart and arteries.
Is fat necessary?
Absolutely! Fat gives energy to the body, helps in absorbing many vitamins and makes the brain sharp. You just need to choose the right fat and consume it in balanced quantities.
