News Topical, Digital Desk : Tragic news has emerged from Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. A fire broke out late last night in the ICU ward of Jaipur's Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital. Eight people died in the blaze.

Officials said early Monday that two women were among the dead. The victims and their families alleged that the hospital lacked firefighting or firefighting equipment. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

The victims told their eyewitness account

Regarding the fire at SMS Hospital in Jaipur, Narendra Singh said that he was eating dinner when the incident occurred. His mother was admitted to the ICU ward. By the time he realized what was happening, his mother had died.

Speaking to news agency ANI, he said, "A fire broke out in the ICU, and I didn't even know it. I had come downstairs to eat. There were no fire extinguishing equipment or facilities available. My mother was admitted there. It's worth noting that 11 patients were being treated in the ICU ward where the fire broke out."

Victims allege negligence

The families of the victims have accused the hospital administration of negligence. They say the hospital lacked the resources to extinguish the fire and rescue the patients. Furthermore, they allege that timely action was not taken.

Doctors had fled from the hospital

A cousin of a man named Omprakash was hospitalized and also died in the fire. Omprakash says that when smoke began to spread around 11:30 p.m., he alerted doctors to the potential danger to patients.

Speaking to ANI, Om Prakash said, "By the time the smoke started rising, the doctor and compounder had fled. Only four or five patients were evacuated. Unfortunately, my aunt's son lost his life in the incident. He was recovering and was supposed to be discharged in two or three days."
