News Topical, Digital Desk : A petition was filed in the Supreme Court claiming that the land of a Gurudwara located in Shahdara, Delhi is Waqf land. The Delhi Waqf Board claimed that the land on which the Gurudwara is built in Shahdara is Waqf land and there was a mosque there before independence. But the Supreme Court rejected the petition of the Waqf Board and said that the Gurudwara has been there for many decades, so the Waqf Board should back off. Earlier, the Delhi High Court had also rejected the petition of the Waqf Board.
Gurudwara is located in Shahdara area
This entire matter is related to the land of the Gurudwara located in Shahdara. Calling it the property of Waqf, the Delhi Waqf Board had claimed that there was a mosque there. Advocate Sanjay Ghosh, who appeared on behalf of the board, said that the claim of there being a mosque was accepted in the lower courts.
However, the Supreme Court rejected this demand outright and said that when the Gurudwara is functioning well there, let it remain. A religious structure is already running, so the Waqf Board should withdraw itself. The bench of Justice Satish Chandra Sharma said that you should give up the claim yourself.
In 2010, the Delhi High Court also rejected the petition of the Waqf Board, after which the Board approached the Supreme Court. The petition said that the mosque Takia Babbar Shah was located there and the land was given to the Waqf. However, the respondent argued that the property ceased to be Waqf, as its then owner Mohammad Ahsan sold it in 1953.
