
News Topical, Digital Desk : Debt-ridden telecom company Vodafone Idea (Vi) has reduced its loss to ₹ 7,166.1 crore in the quarter ended March 2025 (Q4FY25). This was ₹ 7,674.6 crore in the same quarter last year. However, the loss has increased slightly compared to the December quarter (Q3FY25), when it was ₹ 6,609.3 crore.
A look at the quarterly results of Vodafone Idea- Revenue and Average Revenue Per Customer (ARPU) are the results. The company's revenue was ₹11,013.5 crores. It has grown 3.8% year-on-year. ARPU (Average Revenue Per Customer): ₹175 (was ₹153 in Q4FY24 last year). It is showing a growth of 14.2% - the main reason is tariff hike and customer upgrades.
Vodafone Idea CEO Akshay Mundhra says that this quarter is the beginning of a change for us. ARPU is the highest in 5 years. Also, there has been a big reduction in customer attrition and many fundamental indicators have improved. Now we are ready to share in the industry's growth through investment.
Full year performance (FY25)- Annual loss: ₹27,383.4 crores (₹31,238.4 crores in FY24). Annual revenue: ₹43,571.3 crores (2.1% YoY growth)
Debt and payment status- Loan taken from banks (including interest): ₹2,345.1 crores. Spectrum and AGR dues: ₹1,94,910.6 crores. Spectrum payment - done by FY2044. AGR payment - is set to be made by FY2031. The company's net worth is negative ₹70,320.2 crores. The company admitted that its sustainability depends on the support of the Government of India (DoT), fund raising and cash flow.
The company will raise funds of ₹20,000 crores - Vi's board has approved raising up to ₹20,000 crores. This fund will be raised through equity shares, debentures, foreign bonds, GDRs, ADRs, warrants or a combination of these.

AGR issue still pending - Recently the Supreme Court rejected the relief petition in AGR dues, but Vi says that it will still try to find a solution through talks with the government.
Impact on the stock market - Share price: On Friday, it closed down 3.22% at ₹ 6.92. There is definitely a glimpse of some improvement in the financial condition of Vodafone Idea - losses have reduced, revenue and ARPU have increased. But heavy debt, AGR dues and need for funding still keep it on the verge of crisis. Raising ₹ 20,000 crore and getting government support will be decisive for Vi's future.
