News Topical, Digital Desk : Everyone knows that the Indian stock market is usually closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Now, investors may be confused about which days the stock market will be closed in March, which begins tomorrow.

It's worth noting that the stock market will be closed for 12 days in March 2026. Everyone involved in stock market investing should be aware of this. This entire month includes three trading holidays, in addition to weekend holidays. This means that the stock market will be virtually non-active for 40% of the month.

3 trading holidays in the month of March

March 2026 will have four Saturdays and five Sundays. Consequently, the stock market will be closed for nine days. In addition to these nine holidays, there are three major festivals in March, which will result in no trading in the market. During this period, all segments, from equity to commodity, derivatives, and currency markets, will be closed. Let's explore these trading holidays:

  • There will be a holiday on March 3 for Holi, which is one of the major festivals of India.
  •  There will be a holiday on Ram Navami on 26th March.
  •  There will be a holiday on 31st March on the occasion of Shri Mahavir Jayanti.

This means the market will be closed for 12 days. Usually, the Indian stock market does not have such a long holiday.

Will the market remain closed or open on the day of Holika Dahan?

The markets will be closed on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, for Holi. This holiday coincides with the burning of Holika. The stock market will be open on March 4, when colors will be played across much of the country. Normal trading will resume on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange on March 4. The markets will open as usual at 9:15 am and remain open until 3:30 pm.
