News Topical, Digital Desk : The illegal ovum sale racket uncovered in Badlapur, Maharashtra, has shocked the entire state. Investigations have revealed that ovum was extracted from a single woman not just once, but 10 to 12 times, which is completely illegal and extremely dangerous to health. According to sources, these women were lured with 18,000 to 25,000 rupees each time.

This case isn't limited to Badlapur , but extends to other districts of Maharashtra and other states. The investigation also revealed that sonography was used to confirm whether a woman had fertilized. They were then sent to other states, their documents were prepared, and the fertilized eggs were surgically removed at IVF centers and sold.

Woman working in sonography centre arrested

Nashik is said to be the main hub of this racket . Police suspect that some well-known IVF centers there may be involved in this illegal business. In connection with this, a woman working at a sonography center in Ulhasnagar has also been arrested, who used to tell whether a woman had fertilized or not.

How was the racket exposed?

A team led by Dr. Jyotsna Sawant, Chief Medical Officer of the Badlapur Sub-District Hospital, raided the home of Sulakshana Gadekar. A large quantity of injections and medications for enhancing fertilization were found illegally stored there. It is alleged that these injections were administered to needy women by luring them with money, and they were then sent to IVF centers, where the fertilization was extracted in the operating theater and sold illegally. Along with Sulakshana Gadekar, a case has also been filed against Ashwini Chabukswar and Manjusha Wankhade. Initial investigations indicate an international racket.

Rupali Chakankar's statement

State Women's Commission Chairperson Rupali Chakankar stated that strict action will be taken against all IVF and sonography centers involved in this case. She added that five individuals have been arrested so far for smuggling female ovum by concealing their identities through fake documents.

He also clarified that this racket is not limited to Badlapur, but has roots throughout the state and beyond. He also commended the Badlapur police for uncovering this massive racket. Currently, the police and health department are jointly investigating the matter. More major revelations are expected in the coming days.
