
News Topical, Digital Desk : Vodafone Idea (Vi) has filed a new petition in the Supreme Court in the Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) case. The company has demanded to re-examine the calculation of AGR and re-examine the dues before 2017. The company says that in many cases the AGR amount was mistakenly added twice, which increased their dues.
The Department of Telecom (DoT) had earlier demanded Rs 5,960 crore from Vodafone Idea. But now the government has sent a notice to the company on August 13, 2025, asking it to pay an additional Rs 2,774 crore. In this notice, the company was directed to respond within 15 days.
What is Vodafone Idea's demand Vodafone Idea has demanded from the Supreme Court that the mistakes made in the calculation of AGR be rectified. The company claims that the Telecom Department added some amount twice, due to which the outstanding amount increased incorrectly. The company has demanded a re-examination of AGR dues before 2017 so that the correct amount can be ascertained.
Understand the old case The AGR case has been going on for a long time. In October 2019, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the government, ordering telecom companies to pay dues of more than Rs 92,000 crore. Vodafone Idea's share is around Rs 70,000 crore. The company had earlier filed several petitions citing errors in calculations, but the Supreme Court rejected its curative petition in September 2024.

Recently the company has raised Rs 24,000 crore, which includes follow-on public offer (FPO) and promoter funding. The company is now trying to raise more debt for network expansion.
