News Topical, Digital Desk : During the Global Business Summit in Riyadh, US President Donald Trump asked a question to the Saudi Crown Prince which created a stir among the people present there.

 

During the event, Trump heaped praise on the Saudi crown prince, asking, "Mohammed, how do you sleep at night?" The US President also praised the Saudi crown prince for overcoming criticism and turning his country into a powerful business hub.

 

Trump praised Bin Salman profusely

Trump said, "They keep tossing and turning all night long thinking how to make it better. The fact is that people who don't toss and turn will never get you anywhere." Trump's praise made Bin Salman laugh and the audience gave him a standing ovation.

Expressing his admiration for Saudi Arabia's transformation under MBS, Trump said, "Critics doubted that it (Saudi Arabia's rise) was possible, that what you've done was possible, but over the last eight years Saudi Arabia has proven the critics absolutely wrong. I like Bin Salman very much."

 

On whose orders were sanctions lifted from Syria?

Reflecting his commitment to the deeper ties between the United States and Saudi Arabia, Trump announced he was lifting sanctions on Syria at the request of MBS and Turkish President Erdogan, saying, "Oh, what I wouldn't do for the crown prince."

 

What does Trump want?

Trump and MBS's relationship is built on shared interests. The US president is looking for major economic wins and a revived US role in the region, while bin Salman wants access to advanced technology, military aid and a powerful ally to modernise Saudi Arabia and assert regional leadership.

At the summit, Trump announced a $142 billion defense deal and a sweeping $600 billion Saudi investment package in artificial intelligence, infrastructure and energy.
