News Topical, Digital Desk : After years on the run, the gang leader, considered one of Europe's most notorious criminals, has finally been arrested. Daniel Kinahan was apprehended during a joint operation in Dubai.

The operation was carried out jointly by agencies from Ireland and the United Arab Emirates. Dubai police confirmed the arrest of an "Irish fugitive," although they did not disclose his name. Irish media later identified him as Daniel Kinahan. Irish police said a man in his 40s was detained on the basis of a court warrant.

The search was going on for a long time

Daniel Kinahan faces numerous charges related to organized crime and drug trafficking. He is believed to be the head of the Kinahan Cartel, which operates a major drug trafficking network in Europe. He will be tried in connection with a long-running gang war in Ireland that has claimed the lives of 18 people since 2015. Kinahan has evaded arrest for several years and has been constantly changing his location.

Daniel Kinahan left Ireland after being attacked during a boxing event at a Dublin hotel. His close associate, David Byrne, was shot and killed in the attack. He then moved to Spain and then the United Arab Emirates, where he continued to operate his network. Agencies in several countries were monitoring his activities and gathering evidence against him.

Major action at the international level

In 2022, the US Treasury Department offered a $5 million reward for information leading to the arrest of the Kinahan Cartel's leaders or the dismantling of their network. According to investigative agencies, the cartel controls a significant portion of the cocaine supply in Europe and is considered part of a “super cartel.” Iran refuses second round of talks, accuses US of 'blame game'
