News Topical, Digital Desk : The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) implemented in Uttarakhand has set a strong example of good governance and digital administration in its first year. The UCC will complete one year on January 27, 2026, and during this period, more than five lakh applications for various services have been received. Most importantly, despite such a large number of applications, not a single case of privacy violation has been reported so far.
UCC applications are being made through online process
Services offered under the UCC include marriage registration, divorce, will registration, registration of live-in relationships, and termination of live-in relationships. Applications for all these services are being processed completely online and through a faceless process. Citizens can apply from the comfort of their homes through the portal, eliminating the need to physically visit a government office or official.
The government has given top priority to protecting citizens' personal information on the UCC portal. Strong technical security provisions have been implemented within the portal to ensure that personal information remains completely confidential. Importantly, once an application is approved by the competent authority, the relevant authority cannot access the applicant's personal information again. Only the applicant has access to the information provided with the application, subject to a prescribed verification process.
Increased trust of common citizens in government services
Meanwhile, over the past year, 100% of all applications received under the UCC have been processed through the portal. Certificates are available within an average of five days, saving people both time and resources. This has also increased citizens' trust in government services. Initially, some quarters attempted to create apprehensions and a negative atmosphere regarding the Uniform Civil Code, but one year of successful implementation has answered all those questions.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the UCC not only ensures 100% privacy protection for citizens, but also sets a new standard for good governance in the state through a simple, transparent, and digital process. The government believes that this successful UCC model can serve as an inspiration for other states in the future.
