Gorakhpur. After being proved guilty in the case of attempted murder, Additional Sessions Judge Avnish Kumar Rai has sentenced 11 people including Khorabar BJP leader Chhotelal Paswan, his two sons, brother and three nephews to eight years imprisonment. All the accused have been fined Rs 17500. If the fine is not deposited, the accused will have to undergo an additional 53 days of imprisonment.

Assistant District Government Advocate Dharmendra Kumar Dubey and Atul Kumar Shukla from the prosecution side said that the plaintiff Dayashankar Nishad is a resident of Khorabar. On the morning of 29 November 2004, due to old enmity, the accused Jokhu Paswan, his sons Shivanjay, Yatan, Dhananjay, brother Chhotelal Paswan, his sons Kamlesh, Tribhuvan and associates Prithvi, Jitaai, Bablu and Bablu Kumar living in Dargahia Jeetpur of Shahpur police station area beat up the plaintiff's father and badly injured him.

The plaintiff's family members admitted him to Sadar Hospital. To report this incident, the plaintiff came to Khorabar police station at 4:30 pm on 30 November 2004. The clerk present at the police station told that the SO sahab is resting and will leave in the evening. Meanwhile, the plaintiff came home.

At 5 pm, the accused came in his personal Hunter jeep armed with weapons and opened fire on the plaintiff's family members. The judge gave the above decision on the basis of evidence available on the file.

Chhotelal has been the president of Khorabar Mandal

Jokhu Paswan's daughter-in-law Rita Devi, wife of Dhananjay, is the councillor of the newly created Khorabar ward. While Chhotelal Paswan has been the president of the Khorabar Mandal of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Dayashankar Nishad, who filed a case against the BJP leader and his brothers, is a dismissed constable of Uttar Pradesh Police. The police had opened a history sheet against him for being involved in criminal activities.

BJYM Mandal president accused of attacking Lekhpal arrested

The BJYM Mandal president and his brother, accused of attacking the Lekhpal, were arrested by the Barhalganj police station on Wednesday night. It is alleged that the police vandalized the house. On Thursday afternoon, the BJP leader and his brother were presented in the court by the police from where they were sent to jail.

On 22 December 2023, Lekhpal Ramkaran, posted in Gola Tehsil, had lodged a case of kidnapping, threat, riot, assault and Dalit harassment against the BJYM Mandal President Angad Nishad, his brother Valmiki, Chulhai, Shivmangal, Sajeevan and five to six unknown persons. In this case, a warrant was issued from the court against the accused.
