News Topical, Digital Desk : The US is building a drone fleet to counter China. However, not everything is going smoothly. Last month, during a test conducted by the US Navy off the coast of California, a ship suddenly stopped. While officials were fixing a software glitch, another drone collided with the ship.

It is one of several recent setbacks in the Pentagon's effort to build a fleet of autonomous ships, according to people familiar with the incident. During another test a few weeks ago, the captain of a support boat was thrown into the water when another vessel towing it suddenly picked up speed. The captain was rescued.

Incidents caused by software problems

The incidents were first reported by Defense Scoop. Both incidents were caused by software issues and human errors. The Navy declined to comment on the incidents.

The need for autonomous swarms of maritime drones

Given the massive impact of maritime drones in the Ukraine war, it has been repeatedly said that autonomous swarms of aerial and maritime drones are needed to deter China’s potential advance in the Taiwan Strait.

Drones being developed in Ukraine

The drones being developed in Ukraine are playing a very important role in the war. They look like speedboats and are capable of carrying weapons, explosives and surveillance equipment. The US is aiming to build an autonomous naval fleet that can operate in swarms and without any human intervention.
