News Topical, Digital Desk : The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has launched its largest crackdown on power theft in the Roorkee and Mangalore regions of Uttarakhand. The department's joint team raided several villages simultaneously, creating panic among those involved in illegal power theft. During this raid, the department caught 46 villagers red-handed stealing electricity through illegal connections. Four consumers had their meters removed on the spot due to significant outstanding dues.

In order to curb electricity theft, the UPCL team launched a thorough checking campaign in Behedki, Khatakhedi, Jhabredi Kala, and Khajuri villages in the Jhabreda area. Simultaneous raids were also conducted in Tanda Bhandeda, Narsan Kala, and Mangalore Town in the Mangalore area. This sudden action created panic among those using electricity through illegal connections, and many were seen fleeing the scene.

Officials registered cases of electricity theft on the spot.

This entire operation was led by Jhabreda SDO Mohammad Rizwan and SDO Anubhav Saini. The team included JEs Devendra Sharma, Jamal Singh, Ashok Kumar, Manmohan, and several other departmental employees. The officers registered cases of electricity theft on the spot and initiated action as per the regulations. Jhabreda SDO Mohammad Rizwan told the media that this campaign will continue in the future.

Legal action will be taken for not paying the outstanding electricity bill.

Mohammad Rizwan stated that a list of consumers whose connections have already been disconnected due to outstanding dues has been compiled. Now, RCs (Recovery Certificates) have been issued against them, along with intensive re-checks. He appealed to consumers to pay their outstanding electricity bills as soon as possible to avoid legal action.

This strict action by UPCL clearly indicates that stealing electricity will now be costly. The department has also begun keeping a close watch on those who continue to use electricity surreptitiously after their connections have been cut.
