News Topical, Digital Desk : North India is in the grip of severe heat. On Monday (April 27), Banda district of Uttar Pradesh was the hottest place in the country. The maximum temperature here was recorded at 47.6°C. According to the Meteorological Department, this was the highest temperature recorded in the month of April in Banda district of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, the temperature of 47.4°C was recorded in Banda on April 30, 2022 and April 25, 2026. Apart from Banda, Jhansi was also included in the list of cities where the maximum temperature crossed 45°C. On April 27, a temperature of 45.2°C was recorded in Jhansi.

Dust storm in Delhi last night

Meanwhile, the national capital, Delhi, experienced a dust storm and strong winds on Monday night. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds from Monday to Thursday. Delhi is experiencing severe heat, with temperatures reaching 42.3 degrees Celsius.   

The Meteorological Department has predicted a minimum temperature of around 28 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature of around 42 degrees Celsius for Tuesday. Thunderstorms and rain are expected to bring some relief from the intense heat. 

Chances of rain from Tuesday to April 30

Dust storms, thunderstorms, and rain are expected from Tuesday to April 30, for which a special yellow alert has been issued for April 29. Mahesh Palawat of Skymet Weather reported, "A cyclonic circulation is persisting over central Pakistan, northwest Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana. It is currently strong and moving toward northeast India. Rain may occur in parts of Rajasthan and Haryana tonight, and it is expected to reach Delhi on Tuesday and remain active until April 30."

He also said that due to the circulation moving over Rajasthan, strong winds are expected, which may lead to dust storms as well as moderate rain and thundershowers, which can be classified as pre-monsoon showers. Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 42.3 degrees Celsius, which is 3.3 degrees above normal, making it the second hottest day of the month. Palam also recorded a maximum temperature of 42.3 degrees Celsius, which is about 2.1 degrees above normal, while Lodhi Road recorded a temperature of 42.4 degrees Celsius, which is about 4.4 degrees above normal.   

The Ridge station recorded a maximum temperature of 43.8 degrees Celsius, about 4.3 degrees above normal. It was followed by Ayanagar at 43.2 degrees Celsius, about 3.7 degrees above normal. Minimum temperatures were also above normal at all stations. Safdarjung recorded a minimum temperature of 25.0 degrees Celsius, about 1.2 degrees above normal, while Palam recorded a temperature of 26.0 degrees Celsius, about 1.1 degrees above normal.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 23.6 degrees Celsius at Lodhi Road, which was about 0.6 degrees above normal, 25.8 degrees Celsius at Ridge, which was 0.9 degrees above normal and 24.4 degrees Celsius at Ayanagar, which was about 0.7 degrees above normal. 

How was the AQI of Delhi?

According to the Meteorological Department, 'During the last 24 hours, western winds blew in Delhi at a speed of 15-20 kmph, gusting up to 37 kmph.' Meanwhile, the city's air quality remained in the 'moderate' category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 197. As per CPCB standards, an AQI of 0-50 is considered 'good', 51-100 'satisfactory', 101-200 'moderate', 201-300 'poor', 301-400 'very poor' and 401-500 'severe'.
