News Topical, Digital Desk : With less than a year left for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party has prepared an aggressive strategy in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made three important visits to the state within the past month. Through these visits, the BJP has covered three key areas of the state.

PM Modi's first public meeting was held on March 28th in connection with the inauguration of Jewar International Airport. He then visited his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, on April 28th. He will now hold a public meeting in Hardoi on April 29th.

The BJP is targeting western Uttar Pradesh through Jewar, Purvanchal through Varanasi, and Awadh through Hardoi. All three events saw either the inauguration or the laying of the foundation stone for projects worth crores of rupees. The BJP is trying to convey the message in the state that it is focusing more on development projects than previous governments.

In fact, through these rallies and inaugurations and foundation stone laying of schemes, BJP is not only trying to fulfill its claim and promise of being a development-oriented government but is also trying to improve its eroding support base.

What was the situation in Purvanchal, Awadh and the West?

Let's first talk about Purvanchal. In the 2022 assembly elections, BJP candidates won 29 seats across 10 districts in the region. Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party performed better than in 2017. While the party won 12 seats in the 2017 elections, this figure increased to 31 in 2022.

In the Lok Sabha elections, the SP cycle swept nine out of 12 seats, while the lotus bloomed in only two. Apna Dal (S) won one seat. The BJP won two seats in Purvanchal: Varanasi and Bhadohi.

Now, turning to Awadh, the BJP won only 8 out of 20 seats in the 2024 general elections. In the 2019 elections, it had won 17 seats. The seats won by the SP and Congress alliance in the 2024 elections include Amethi, Ambedkar Nagar, Barabanki, Dhaurahra, Faizabad, Kheri, Mohanlalganj, Pratapgarh, Rae Bareli, Shravasti, Sitapur, and Sultanpur districts. However, Awadh provided relief to the BJP in the 2022 assembly elections, winning 17 more seats than in 2017.

The BJP suffered a major setback in Western Uttar Pradesh in 2022. Of the 136 seats in the region, the BJP, which won 110 in the 2017 elections, managed only 93 in 2022. Meanwhile, the SP's tally increased from 20 to 43 compared to 2017.

What is the strategy of SP?

According to political experts, to compensate for the losses suffered in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Purvanchal and Western UP, as well as the setbacks suffered in the Awadh region during the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP is now focusing on a region-wise strategy keeping 2027 in mind.

Meanwhile, amid these BJP strategies, the Samajwadi Party is also active. Following the Prime Minister's public meeting in Jewar on March 28th, Akhilesh Yadav held a rally in Dadri, Gautam Buddha Nagar, on March 29th. In addition, he is personally touring various districts. He will also soon visit Ghazipur.

In such a situation, both parties are weighing their own advantages and disadvantages and formulating strategies for 2027. It remains to be seen how much better results the BJP can achieve in the 2027 elections through these strategies.
