News Topical, Digital Desk : Former US President Donald Trump has taken a tough stand on the 17th BRICS summit to be held on July 6-7 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has said that the BRICS group is trying to undermine the interests of America, and he will not let this happen.

The White House on Monday confirmed that Trump is keeping an eye on the activities of the BRICS countries and will take strict action against any decision against America.

White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt said that Trump feels that BRICS is working against the interests of America. Therefore, he has resolved to take all possible steps so that no country can take advantage of America and its citizens.

What did Trump say?

"Any country that stands with BRICS' anti-American policies will be hit with an additional 10% tariff. There will be no exceptions," Trump posted on Truth Social.

The BRICS summit saw the inclusion of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa along with new members such as Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, UAE and Indonesia.

Trump believes these countries are "not getting stronger" but rather trying to weaken the United States.

BRICS statement

The BRICS now represents nearly half the world's population and 40% of global GDP. The group accounts for a quarter of the world's trade and investment.

"We have serious concerns over unilateral trade restrictions, tariff hikes and other non-tariff measures that harm global trade," the finance ministers and central bank governors of the BRICS nations said in their joint statement.

The statement calls for strengthening rule-based systems like the WTO and avoiding trade wars so that the global economy can avoid recession.
