Elon Musk's term on the government-cutting task force is about to end. US President Donald Trump has given his billionaire ally and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) a new task. Create a system to sell 'gold cards' to wealthy immigrants.
According to the report, engineers from Musk's team are working on creating a website and application process for a 'special immigration visa' worth $5 million.
DOGE will work closely with employees
The DOGE team is working closely with staff from the State Department, Department of Homeland Security, and United States Citizenship and Immigration Services to build the visa portal, the report said.
What is special about Gold Card?
- The US President in late February unveiled a new path to United States citizenship for very high-level people, calling it a 'Gold Card'.
- However, at the time the US President or his team gave very little details about who would be eligible for the programme.
- The Trump administration said the 'Gold Card' would replace the existing EB-5 visa programme, which grants permanent residency to foreign nationals willing to invest either $800,000 or $1.05 million in US businesses that create at least 10 jobs for American workers.
1000 Gold Card Visa sold in one day
The program raised nearly $4 billion for the federal government last year. Last month, Trump's Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said on a podcast that he had sold 1,000 visas, although no proof of financial transactions was shown at the time.
Lutnick also said that Musk is developing software and the program will be launched in two weeks. So if you have a Gold Card - which used to be a Green Card - you are a permanent resident of the US.
