News Topical, Digital Desk : The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has decided to refund the toll collected from motorists stuck in a 33-hour traffic jam following a gas tanker accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. This decision will benefit nearly one lakh people stranded in the jam.
On February 3, a gas tanker overturned on the Khopoli section of the expressway, blocking traffic for several kilometers. The blockage left many drivers and travelers without water, food, and other basic amenities.
Money was deducted from Fastag
Following the accident, the administration ordered the immediate suspension of toll collection. However, by then, toll charges had already been deducted from the Fastag accounts of many drivers.
Amount will be deposited in Fastag accounts
A senior official of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation said on Sunday that despite the order to stop toll collection, it has been decided to refund the entire amount collected from the vehicle owners.
This refund, amounting to approximately ₹5.16 crore, will be paid by the MSRDC. This amount will be directly deposited into the FASTag accounts of affected vehicle owners within the next few days.
