News Topical, Digital Desk : Recently, the economic census data has been released for the first time in Pakistan. This report has surprised everyone, because the number of mosques and madrasas in Pakistan is much more than industries and factories. Pakistan's Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has released this report.
According to the report, there are about 6 lakh mosques in Pakistan while only 23 thousand factories are running. Not only this, 36 thousand religious madrassas have also been registered which is again more than the industry.
Pakistan's sinking economy
However, the number of small production units is put at 6.43 lakh. This figure was collected from the Pakistan Census and officially released on August 21.
This report has come at a time when Pakistan is working on the second review of the $7 billion bailout package from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to handle its sinking economy. The report also states that the highest number of madrassas and mosques is in Punjab province.
According to the data, there are 4 crore permanent units in Pakistan. Out of these, 72 lakh are employment structures, where 2.54 crore people were working by the year 2023. Most of the people are working in the service sector.
Ministerial statement
Releasing the report, Ahsan Iqbal said, “Reliable data is the backbone of sustainable development. It helps in proper formulation of policies and makes decision making easier.”
It is worth noting that this is the third major census after Pakistan's independence. Before this, population census and agricultural census were conducted. An attempt was made in 2003 but it failed. Whereas, India has conducted 7 economic censuses so far.
