Indian-origin student dies in America

Savita Shan, an Indian-American student from Austin, was killed when a gunman opened fire in a crowded entertainment district on West Sixth Street on Sunday.

Savita Shan was a dual-degree senior at the University of Texas at Austin. University officials described her as an outstanding student studying management information systems and economics.

Savita Shan's murder has deeply shocked the large Indian community in Austin, especially students and technology professionals living in the Silicon Hills corridor.

Connection of the attack to the US-Iran war

The US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran on February 28. Iran's retaliatory strikes have raised security concerns across the country.

Federal authorities, led by the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, are investigating possible international or ideological links to the attack.

The suspect in the Texas shooting has been identified as 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne, a Senegalese American citizen who was shot dead by police at the scene.

Items found at the suspect's home included an Iranian flag and radical writing, linking the attack to Iran.
