News Topical, Digital Desk : US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Monday that B-1 bombers carried out a nighttime strike deep inside Iran. The strikes were aimed at degrading Iran's missile capability.

"Last night, US B-1 bombers struck deep inside Iran to degrade Iranian ballistic missile capabilities," CENTCOM said in a statement on the social media platform X. The operation comes amid an escalating US military campaign dubbed Operation Epic Fury.

What did the White House say?

The White House indicated the strikes were part of a larger effort to weaken Iran's weapons infrastructure. As President Donald Trump said, "We're going to destroy their missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground," CENTCOM quoted Trump as saying.

CENTCOM also cited Iran's misinformation about battlefield losses. "The Iranian government's false messaging machine continues to falsely claim that it has sunk a US aircraft carrier," CENTCOM said.

What is the B-1 bomber?

The B-1 is a long-range strategic bomber capable of carrying a large payload of conventional weapons and operating deep inside enemy territory. The attacks come after Iran launched a series of missiles across the region.

“Iran continues to deliberately launch ballistic missiles and indiscriminately target military and civilian locations throughout the region,” CENTCOM said.
