News Topical, Digital Desk : The Trump administration is preparing to increase tariffs on some countries. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said on Wednesday that US tariffs on some countries will be raised from 10 percent to 15 percent or more.

His statement comes as the Trump administration imposed a new temporary global tariff of 10 percent from Tuesday after the US Supreme Court struck down sweeping import duties imposed under emergency powers last week.

US Trade Representative Greer told Fox Business' "Mornings with Maria" that the Trump administration does not intend to increase existing tariffs on Chinese goods, as President Donald Trump plans to visit China in the coming weeks.

Trump suffers setback from US Supreme Court

"Right now, we have a 10 percent tariff. It will increase to 15 percent for some, and then it could go higher for others," he said. Greer said the White House is preparing to make a new announcement to raise the temporary tariff to 15 percent.

While he did not name any partner countries or share any details, he said the administration wants to ensure it follows proper legal procedures for the increase.

Let us tell you that after the US Supreme Court had cancelled the tariffs ranging from 10 percent to 50 percent imposed by the Trump administration under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, under which a 10 percent tariff has been notified for 150 days under the new strategy.
