News Topical, Digital Desk : The Uttarakhand government has provided a significant relief to ministers by increasing their travel allowance by ₹30,000 per month. A government notification has been issued in this regard. Under the new provisions, the Chief Minister, along with all cabinet ministers, ministers of state, and deputy ministers, will now receive a maximum travel allowance of ₹90,000 per month for travel within India. Previously, this limit was ₹60,000 per month

This government-level decision was implemented after amending the Uttar Pradesh Ministers (Travel Allowance) Rules, 1997. The amended rules have now been notified as the Uttar Pradesh Ministers (Travel Allowance) (Amendment) Rules, 2026. Following an order from Secretary Shailesh Bagauli, the Council of Ministers Section issued a formal notification.

According to the notification, the amendment changes Rule 4 of the Rules. This rule, which had previously set the maximum travel allowance for ministers, has now been increased to ₹90,000 per month. This allowance will be payable for travel undertaken by ministers to various parts of the country on official business.

It is worth noting that earlier in 2024, the state government had also increased the salaries and allowances of MLAs. The decision to increase the travel allowances of ministers is now being considered part of that initiative. However, this decision has sparked heated debate in political circles, and the opposition may question the government.
