News Topical, Digital Desk : Three engineers from the Rural Works Department have been suspended after a span of an RCC bridge under construction over the Ghoghari River in the Sidhavaliya block of Gopalganj, Bihar, was damaged during the casting process.
The department has suspended the Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineer, and Junior Engineer of Gopalganj Works Division-2 with immediate effect for negligence in their work. Action is also being taken against the contractor, Bapudham Construction, Motihari, who was involved in the construction of this bridge. Following the incident, the District Magistrate personally visited the site on Monday (March 2, 2026).
A part fell during casting.
It should be noted that a portion of the RCC bridge, spanning L-041 to L-039, being constructed over the Ghoghari River, collapsed during casting. However, no casualties or property were reported in this accident. According to information received from the Rural Works Department, the department's Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineer, Nodal Officer, and the department's Senior Bridge Advisor were sent to the site to investigate the damage to the bridge during casting.
According to the information received from the official sources of the department, all the executive engineers were instructed to get the DPR checked by the senior bridge consultant before the construction of the bridge, but this instruction of the department was not followed by the concerned engineer and contractor and this accident happened during the casting of the bridge.
The construction of the bridge began last year.
It is noteworthy that the construction of the RCC bridge over the Ghoghari River in Bakhraul Kurmi Tola, Sidhavaliya block, Gopalganj, began on March 7 last year, and is scheduled to be completed by March 6. In the review meeting held on February 28, the department reiterated its directive to all work divisions to have their bridge project DPRs reviewed by a bridge consultant.
