News Topical, Digital Desk : Madhya Pradesh: While the combination of social media and artificial intelligence (AI) symbolizes technological progress, its misuse at a young age has shocked society. Recently, a serious case of AI misuse came to light in Chhindwara city, where two minor boys used AI tools to deepfake ordinary photos of minor girls they knew and made them viral on social media.
According to reports, the accused first stole normal photos from social media profiles of girls they knew. They then manipulated those photos using mobile apps and AI technology, giving them a highly objectionable look.
Viral on WhatsApp and Instagram
These photos were not only shared on friends' WhatsApp groups, but also posted on Instagram and other platforms. When the victims learned of this, they went to the Kotwali police station with their families and narrated their ordeal. Given the sensitivity of the matter, the police took immediate action. Based on a cyber complaint received by Kotwali TI Ashish Kumar, the police took action in this case. There are two accused; one has been arrested, and a search is underway for the other.
Case registered under BNS and IT Act
A case has been registered against both minors under Section 79 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act. The police cyber team is now examining the digital data from the seized mobile phones to determine the number of people who accessed the objectionable material. The process of permanently removing the images from the internet has also been initiated.
Following this incident, the Chhindwara Cyber Cell has issued a special advisory. Police have appealed to parents to monitor their children's digital activities and educate them about the ethical use of technology.
