News Topical, Digital Desk : A very sacred and grand temple of Lord Shiva is located in Deoghar, Jharkhand. Every year in the month of Sawan, a Shravan fair is held here, in which lakhs of devotees come to see Baba Bholenath.
Devotees carry the holy Ganga water from Sultanganj for about 100 kilometers and offer it to Baba. During this time, the spiritual aura here is worth seeing. The story of this temple (Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga History) is related to the Ramayana period.
... then this Jyotirlinga would have been in Lanka
According to mythology (Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga History), Ravana went to the Himalayas and performed severe penance to please Lord Shiva. After this, he cut off his nine heads one by one and offered them to the Shivalinga. When he was about to cut off his last head, Lord Shiva became pleased and asked him to ask for a boon.
Ravana asked for permission to establish a Shivling in Lanka. Shivji gave him the linga and said that wherever it is placed on earth, it will be established there. Knowing this, all the gods got worried. Actually, Ravana was already very powerful.
If he had taken the Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga to Lanka and established it there, his power would have increased even more. In his pride and arrogance, he would have become a threat to the gods as well. He could have also created an atmosphere of unrest and chaos in the world.
Then Lord Vishnu created a play
When Lord Vishnu came to know of Ravana's plan, he intervened to stop Ravana from taking the Shivalinga to Lanka. He ordered Varun Deva to stop Ravana from taking the Shivalinga.
When Ravana was on the way with this Jyotirling, he felt the need to urinate. Then he saw a cowherd. Ravana called him and handed him the Shivling and went to urinate. When Ravana returned, he saw that the cowherd had left the Shivling there and gone somewhere.
Then Jyotirlinga was established there
After this, Ravana tried a lot to lift the Shivling, but could not succeed. Here, gods like Brahma, Vishnu etc. came and worshipped that Shivling. They reinstalled the Jyotirling at the same place and went back to heaven while praising Shiva. According to popular belief, this Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga gives desired results. That is why it is also called Kamana Linga.
Why was Baidyanath Jyotirlinga named so?
It is said that Lord Shiva had restored the severed heads of Ravana. He also relieved him from the pain of his severed heads by acting as a doctor. This is why this Jyotirlinga is called Vaidyanath. It is said that those who worship and anoint Lord Vaidyanath here are relieved of their diseases.
