News Topical, Digital Desk : These days, there's a growing buzz surrounding the Pal community in Uttar Pradesh politics. In a state with an OBC population of approximately 40-41 percent, the Pal community accounts for approximately 3 percent. While this figure may not seem significant, it is considered a decisive force in many districts and assembly constituencies. This is why major political parties have begun wooing this community.

According to political analyst Yogesh Mishra, the Pal community, the second largest caste in the OBC vote bank, is particularly influential in some areas, after the Yadav (about 9-10%) and Kurmi (4-5%). Consequently, this 3 percent segment has the potential to determine victory or defeat in closely contested seats.

Shyamlal Pal will take charge of the party in SP.

The Samajwadi Party, ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, made organizational changes to provide representation to the Pal community. They appointed Shyamlal Pal as president. The party claims this has had a positive impact in several seats. A recent statement by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav that Pooja Pal has been wooed by the BJP and that Pal community leader Shyamlal Pal will campaign against her has further fueled this debate. The SP's message is clear: it is claiming the organized support of the Pal community.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) also claims the Pal community as its traditional supporters. BSP state president Vishwanath Pal says that the party has periodically given the Pal community leadership and political respect. Consequently, the competition between the SP and the BSP for this community is clearly visible.

BJP works on OBC equation

Yogesh Mishra says that the Bharatiya Janata Party's strategy is considered slightly different. The BJP works on a broad OBC equation and strives to create a balanced social equation rather than overtly targeting any one caste. However, the opposition alleges that the BJP has failed to provide clear leadership regarding the Pal community.

Pal community contest between BJP and SP

Political analysts believe that the Pal community will primarily be contested between the BJP and the Samajwadi Party in the upcoming elections. Therefore, the party that the Pal community leans towards could influence the outcome in many seats.
