News Topical, Digital Desk : The decision to cast model Poonam Pandey as Mandodari in Delhi's famous Luv Kush Ramlila is becoming increasingly controversial. However, there appears to be a split in the BJP regarding this matter. While BJP MLA Ravi Negi supported Poonam Pandey, BJP leader and senior vice president of the Luv Kush Ramlila Committee, Praveen Shankar Kapoor, has now opposed Poonam's portrayal of Mandodari.

The Delhi BJP has demanded the organizers immediately reverse the decision, stating that it has hurt the sentiments of millions of Hindu devotees. Praveen Shankar Kapoor, media in-charge of the Delhi BJP and senior vice president of the Luv Kush Ramlila Committee, wrote a letter to committee president Arjun Kumar and secretary Subhash Goyal, registering strong protest on this issue.

Poonam Pandey's name has always been associated with controversies - Praveen Shankar Kapoor

Kapoor said in his letter, "Poonam Pandey's name has always been associated with controversies. Her social media presence and public image are not conducive to a religious event like Ramlila." He further wrote, "She is often in the news for sensational and objectionable actions. In such a situation, giving her the role of Mandodari is not only wrong, but it also hurts the dignity of Ramlila."

Appeal to reverse the decision

Praveen Shankar Kapoor further said, "The Luv Kush Ramlila is part of Delhi's cultural and religious heritage. Such a decision is neither in keeping with tradition nor does justice to public sentiment." Kapoor appealed to the organizers to reverse this decision and maintain the sanctity of the Ramlila.

Giving Poonam Pandey a place in Ramlila is a mockery of faith: VHP

Meanwhile, the Delhi branch of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has also taken a strong stance on the matter. In a statement, the VHP said, "Allowing Poonam Pandey to appear on a sacred stage like the Ramlila is insensitive to Hinduism. It violates the faith of millions of devotees." The organization has demanded that the organizers immediately rescind this decision, or else the protests could intensify.

The controversy could create problems for the organizers.

There has been no formal response from the Luv Kush Ramlila Committee on this controversy. Sources indicate that the committee is considering the issue and may issue a statement soon. The Ramlila held during Navratri in Delhi attracts millions of people every year. It is considered extremely important from a religious and cultural perspective, so such a controversy could create difficulties for the organizers.
